Mass at the Parish of Emmaus
July 22, 2019
Just FYI:
Yesterday was a free and quiet Sunday. Most of the sisters went to Mass either at Nazareth or at the parish church in Emmaus, while one car load went to Liege.
I can only attest to what the Eastern Province did that afternoon because our entire delegation was treated by Sr. Judith to a late lunch at a restaurant in Namur. It was a lovely day and we enjoyed being in Namur. When we returned to Jambes we found most of the sisters glued to the TV. Sunday was Belgian Independence Day and the sisters were watching the parade in Brussels. It was basically a military parade, and was very touching at one point when about twenty military jeeps, each with a former Belgian soldier who had fought in World War II, stopped in front of the reviewing stand. Chairs had been placed for them in front of the stand where the King, his wife and four children sat. The king came down to them, shook each one’s hand and spoke with each one. These elderly soldiers were obviously quite moved by the experience.
We had a special Belgian supper that night and we were joined by as many sisters from Nazareth and Emmaus as were able to come. There was every imaginable type of Belgian cheese, sausage, fruit, bread and, of course, Belgian beer. Ice cream sundaes for dessert. A great time was had by all!
Today the chapter delegates worked on Chapter proposals in the morning and began the process for selecting sisters who will serve on the General Council in the afternoon. There is much to be done before the end of the week!
